Love your home: Practical Magic House

Our favourite movie house is the white Victorian house built for the movie Practical Magic released in 1998, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as Owens sisters who happen to be witches, living in the house with their aunts. The movie was adapted from Alice Hoffman's book and directed by Griffin Dunne. The story is set in New England, we just love the idyllic small town charm.
When they announced last week that the sequel will be coming soon, we knew we had to revisit this movie.

Director Griffin Dunne asked Robin Stander and Stephen Alesch of Roman+ Williams to design the house. They were Inspired by a late nineteenth century scrollwork and East Coast lighthouses and Victorian homes. The exterior of the house was built over the span of six months on Washington's San Juan island, while the interiors were created on a set in Los Angeles.

The greenhouse was filled plants, jars and antique treasures which the designers found through architectural salvage.

Our favourite room of the house is the kitchen. It's the most memorable room with AGA cooker taking the centre place. This is where they spend most of the time.

The kitchen is painted in creamy white which is a nice contrast to the dark wooden floor. The cupboards are filled with creamware and countertops have glass domes scattered all around.

Love the cosy feeling of the kitchen filled with flowers and a bowl filled with loaves of bread.

The garden surrounding the house was created by the designers for the movie. White picket fence, majestic views, roses and garden bursting with vegetables and herbs. Perfection!

The house they built transcended a typical film set. It's hard to believe that this house doesn't exist anymore, the exterior was demolished after they finished filming. Once the movie came out, the designers got a phone call from Barbra Streisand, wanting to buy the house.

We really hope the designers will return for the sequel and that they will rebuild this spectacular house in its entirety, including the interiors. Perhaps they won't tear down the house this time. Fingers crossed!

We have selected some items from our range that would fit right in the Practical Magic House. Everything white and wooden details seems like a perfect choice.

Bunny Spoon Rest, Ceramic white Jug, White Scalloped Bowl, Pestle and Mortar, White Linen Napkins, Butter Knife, Cherry Wood Salt Scoop
